I've always written songs about subjects I feel passionately about, and this is a song which plugs into the popular consciousness in Scotland at the moment. Scotland's identity has been brought to the fore this year in a way that hasn't happened for a long time, and this song is my own contribution to Scotland growing up and hopefully becoming more self aware.
    .
Also included is a bonus alternative version of "Our Scotland" from 2006 featuring Jimmy Carlyle on mandolin and harmony vocals.

Our Scotland 03:50
A piper on Princes Street plays for the tourists Who throw him their coins in reply His Robertson tartan's a proud battered remnant Of a Scotland that's long since gone by Some day our wee country will again be a nation I belong to Scotland and in Scotland i'll bide I'll wait for that day with anticipation They've taken our freedom but they'll no' take our pride Well it's said that without the support of Great Britain Our economy wouldn't be strong But we've yet to be given the chance we deserve To prove that that theory is wrong Some day our wee country will again be a nation I belong to Scotland and in Scotland i'll bide I'll wait for that day with anticipation They've taken our freedom but they'll no' take our pride So we're facing the future and like it or not There's decisions that have to be made To survive as a colony of a long fallen empire Is something i would happily trade Some day our wee country will again be a nation I belong to Scotland and in Scotland i'll bide I'll wait for that day with anticipation They've taken our freedom but they'll no' take our pride

Well i can't understand what you say anyway, half the time Sometimes in, sometimes out, you're in tune on the dial in my mind On my owsn behalf i'd like to say it's a pleasure to see you again But is this art? I'd like to know, or is it something That will never make the headlines... Never make the headlines.. Well it's hard to comply with the rules that apply to you every day Breathing in, breathing out, you'll be wearing a smile when you fly away On my own behalf i'd like to point out the oxygen masks and parachutes The exits are here, here and here The passage will illuminate Don't listen to the radio, the news is old and the pace is slow Don't listen to the radio The exits are here, here and here The passage will illuminate And this will never make the headlines... Never make the headlines...

They're still sooking up all the money from our oil revenues And spending it on foreign wars, we know this to be true The MPs in London gave themselves a raise of 10% And then they told the NHS that all the money had been spent We could have had our independence from this situation But only 45% said we should be a nation So now we're going to have to take whatever comes, i guess Don't blame me, i voted Yes Tens of thousands of working parents must rely on charity Just to put food on the table, in this economy While the politicians and fat cats who bankrupted our state Are swigging back the champagne and dining from silver plates We could have had our independence from this situation But only 45% said we should be a nation So now we're going to have to take whatever comes, i guess Don't blame me, i voted Yes The elderly were frightened for their pensions The papers blasted "You must all vote No!" The mainstream media never thought to mention How much better off we'd all be if we simply chose to go So the middle classes voted to stay inside the UK And now it's the disabled and the poor who'll have to pay I'm sad to say that things'll just get worse in the next few years I only hope we'll get our chance again and we can overcome our fears We could have had our independence from this situation But only 45% said we should be a nation So now we're going to have to take whatever comes, i guess Don't blame me, i voted Yes Don't blame me, i voted Yes
